It's hard to say exactly how I got into this. I wanted a car that expressed all I have learned in my 40 years of working in the car business. I guess you have to go back to the late 50's or early 60's , our family was very large; 5 girls, 3 boys, and of course the dog and cat. With that in mind you can understand my DAD had to be a do it yourself kind of guy. He was. He worked on our cars when he was home from his truck driving job. With me watching as a little boy, to doing what he told me to get done while he was gone. That's where the seeds were planted. Then I lucked out as a teenager and got a job working for the man who went on to win the rookie of the year award in Nascar in 1971. The shop was often filled with Shelby mustangs and chevy corvettes, we worked on anything that came in the door but the main thrust of the boss was to make money to race. So I was exposed to the ford 427 cid engine and had it hammered into my young brain that that was the engine you went racing with. Well time passed and I did a stint in the army while the Veit Nam war was raging. Never lossing the desire to get a fast car. I went to work on it as soon as I got back state side. Life got in the way and a lot of bad choices left me adrift in places no human being should be. I will spare you the details but it was a hell of a ride. Now I have the skills, the knowledge and my 2 sons back in my life and I want to get back to getting "THAT" car built. In the spring of 2004 I bought a 38 foot Chris Craft because it had 2 427 ford motors in it. I had it moved up to Lake Livingston. There I pulled the 427's and put a pair of 440 chyrslers in their place. Now I had the motors to work with, but needed a car. I was always in love with the 1969 Mach 1 Mustang, so that's what I looked for. Then in the spring of 2007 a '69 mach1 popped up on ebay. A ton of cash later and a week-end trip to Little Rock, Ar. and I had the CAR. After almost two years of looking at it, thinking about it, listening to family and friends, doing research and mind boggling car shows and reading anything I could find about it... a plan has come together. It will require the mustang body be cut away from its floor and frame rails along with its suspension parts, and be welded to the floor, firewall and frame rails of a1991 Lincoln Mark VII. It will then have Power rack and pinion steering, 4 wheel anti-lock disc brakes, ac, 5.0 HO motor, 4sd overdrive transmission and fuel injection. Its been done before and I have a friend that restores cars who has encourged me to go this route (because so much of the mustang needs work any way ). So as we go along, I will post pics. and write about the work as we go.
